Government Jobs for Women 2026 — Best Posts, Reservation & Benefits

Complete guide to government jobs for women in India. Posts reserved for women, fee exemptions, age relaxations, and the safest sectors for female candidates.

Women have a significant advantage in government job recruitment: fee exemptions in most central exams, age relaxation in several, and reserved posts in many state governments. Yet many women do not apply because they are unaware of these benefits.

Fee exemptions

  • SSC (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD, CPO): women candidates of all categories pay zero application fee.
  • UPSC CSE, NDA, CDS, CAPF: women are exempt from the application fee.
  • RRB (NTPC, Group D, ALP, JE): women pay zero fee regardless of category.
  • IBPS and SBI exams: only SC/ST/PwBD women are exempt; OBC/General women pay the full fee.
  • Most state PSC exams (UPPSC, BPSC, MPPSC): women from the home state are usually exempt.

Best posts for women

  • SSC CHSL (LDC/DEO): office-based, regular hours, postings in central government offices. 10,000+ vacancies annually.
  • Banking (IBPS Clerk, SBI Clerk): urban postings, regular shifts. Many banks have women-only branches.
  • Teaching (CTET → KVS/NVS, state TET): high demand, summer and winter breaks, posting near home in state exams.
  • Nursing and healthcare (AIIMS, state hospitals): massive recruitment, good pay, and government accommodation.
  • SSC MTS: the easiest central exam (10th pass), office-based work, and zero fee for women.

Women-only recruitments

  • Delhi Police Constable (Female): regular female-only vacancies.
  • UP Police Women Constable: 15–20% of constable vacancies reserved for women.
  • Anganwadi Worker/Helper: state-level posts exclusively for women.
  • Women SI in state police forces: separate recruitment drives.
  • CISF, CRPF, BSF women constable: dedicated vacancies through SSC GD.

Age relaxation

  • Central government: widows, divorced women and judicially separated women (not remarried) get age relaxation up to 35 years (40 for SC/ST) in Group C posts.
  • Several states (UP, MP, Rajasthan, Bihar) give 5 extra years to all women candidates above the general upper limit.
  • This stacks with category relaxation: an OBC woman in UP gets the OBC relaxation plus the state's 5-year women relaxation.

Physical test standards for women

In SSC GD, SSC CPO and state police, women have separate (lower) physical standards: 157 cm height (152 for ST/NE), 1600m run in 8.5 minutes, long jump, and other tests. Always check the specific notification, as standards vary by force and state.
